Cleaning whitespace while protecting structure
Choose the smallest change
Line trimming removes leading and trailing whitespace. Space cleanup collapses runs of ordinary spaces and tabs and changes common non-breaking spaces into ordinary spaces. Use only the option that solves the problem you can see.
Know where spaces matter
Tabs align columns in a TSV, indentation structures code, and two trailing spaces can create a Markdown line break. Turning on every cleanup option can damage these formats. For structured text, keep space cleanup and trimming off until you have reviewed a representative sample.
Keep paragraph boundaries
Repeated-blank-line cleanup reduces three or more newline characters to two. It leaves a single blank line between paragraphs. It does not join ordinary lines into prose or guess whether a newline was accidental.
Compare the result
Use the comparison tool with your original and cleaned text. Check headings, lists, tables and quoted passages. Cleaning always writes a new TXT output; it does not modify the selected file on disk.
